Meridian Massage
Meridian massage is based on traditional Chinese medicine, also referred to as TCM. TCM is a branch of classical medicine that began in China over 5,000 years ago.
Vital Energy Flow
The principles and foundation of TCM are based on the beliefs that vital, energetic pathways exist and run throughout the body. The vital energy that runs through these channels is known as Qi or Chi (pronounced Chee).
This vital energy flows through these channels unencumbered and freely.
There are twelve channels, and each corresponds to a particular organ and its function. At some point when we experience pain and discomfort, it is believed that the energy, or Qi, gets stuck, thus causing restriction, pain, discomfort, and stress.
You may have heard of acupuncture or acupressure. Acupuncture works with these same meridian channels of the body. A skilled acupuncturist will insert special needles into specific points along the channel to release the blocked or stagnant energy.
Acupressure utilizes finger pressure on these points. Someone performing acupressure does not use needles.
Meridian massage therapy is a focused concentration by the use of the therapist’s hands. The massage therapist works along the whole entire energetic channels, including the specific points that lie in between the beginning and the end of the channel.
The therapist performing meridian massage uses visual techniques as well as hands-on techniques to assist the energetic flow along the pathway. The therapist may choose to pause along the pathway and concentrate at a specific point in a more deliberate connection.
Health is a state of mind, wellness is a state of being.
